Yes, but it would give him the ability to 'su' so that he could change it to something else.

Yeh i know but lets say your friend has your phone and he decides to rm -f / (i know it wont work) to yur phone but he doesnt know yur root password he can diwnload that then blam he can do it. I know its for just in case but still

This works because Cydia (along with other apps such as iFile, iFinder, myFile) runs as root, and packages can run bash scripts on installation / removal (which are also run as root).
