live webserver on my itouch.. now what?
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:32:29 am »
so i finally got my iTouch 2g running lighttpd with php (no mysql) and i have a live domain name so i just filled it with all the debs i have.. http://myiphoneserver.no-ip.biz  i did it all for free.. that was pretty much my goal this whole time.. create my own web server for free.. and i did it.. but now what? i didnt really think past getting it running.. i know nothing about php, html or servers really.. i was learning along the way..

so who has an idea of what i can do with this?

#1 gonna check you logic here...
did u setup a static external ip?
and you realize everytime your ipod is not connected to the internet, whether off or traveling with you, the website will be down.

im glad you didnt pay for the domain.

but now learn html and js (sitepoint is a great site, check out some of their tuts)
then learn jquery (w3schools is good then sitepoints tutorial)
then learn php.
and work on gettinf mysql installed

The no-ip dns will update with his dynamic ip as it changes.  Basically there's a client that runs to check in with no-ip, and then no-ip updates the dns

yeah was something like that.. i dont really know how its going to work cuz the no-ip package i installed thats supposed to update the ip address is on my computer and the server is actually on my ipod.. they have the same ext ip so im assuming when ipod gets a new ip then the computer will too and then the no ip  should update my host ip along with it.. i guess ill find out... and i dont use my ipod it just sits at home and i test stuff on it and pretty much just rip a new one experimenting with crap.. not getting mysql running on it.. i already tried as much as im willing to on that..
i got this program today called Microsoft Expressions Web 4.. it seems to be what im looking for but is complicating as hell.. might even be worse than photoshop lol.. thanks for the site suggestions ill have to check them out..
