Yeah he's a legend. I witnessed the effort made by 8bit to help solve this - the chap really went out to help. A real good guy.

I updated post with instructions on how to use a custom SSL port for webadmin.
Somehow this ended up in mod/dev/crypto, but it has nothing to do with modding, development or cryptography...it's just a manual on setting up znc, something not even directly related to hacking
Maybe I don't understand the different forums?

He's on IRC constantly but why not on here?

If you've setup a dante server do you even need to bother to setup a shell account and znc to maintain safety?

I would say dante is enough, and this is for when you do not have the root permissions (needed for dante):

You do not need root to install, just the ability to use the system compilers.

I setup with shellmix.com and got mobile colloquy, but the room is empty. Not even a list of members. the other 2 rooms i joined atleast show the list of member(have yet to catch anyone online). The colloquy bouncer won't connect to any of the shellmix's vhost. I'm pretty sure this is a human error on my part.lol Any clue?

No and he is correct. Another advantage of this is use of multiple vhosts on an IRC BNC shell account, and constant connection. With a dante proxy it may be up or down, you may jump proxies and burn the old ones. A shell account is steady and offers more vhosts and IPs than the one(s) on your dante proxy

If you have set this up using SSL, like you should have, you must put https:// in front of the ip:port or hostname:port
Code: [Select]
https://ip.ip.ip.ip:port
Code: [Select]
https://hostname:port
A few people have asked how to see messages and chat from when they are offline or when Colloquy quits in background(pfffft lame, it should stay online, imo), THIS IS IT. Set up a znc bnc, and it can save the buffer from chat, because your bnc stays connected to IRC, even when you are not connected to your znc

If you google around for shell's you can find a few shell hosts.  If you want shells to play with, you can get a free vps from chunkhost.com, if you just sign in with your facebook, there is a wait though, it took them about a month to email me.  Also koding.com is in beta but basically gives you a shell that you can compile and run znc on, also I would imagine one could use sdf.org as well.  There are paid options that are a little bit better, but not much. I've got a few vps from virpus that are pretty cheap. Finally if one is feeling a little adventurous one amazon offer a free year of an EC2 micro instance which is a pretty decent server, but after a year you have to pay.  Also EC2 requires quite a bit of setup and familiarity with networking/firewalls/ssh key authentication and linux in general.

@Trcx: I not too sure about linking FB and vps... Haven't people been hacking the hell out of cloud networks?
