[BASIC] Army Cryptography Manual
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:12:48 am »
This is a great manual on cryptography. It is intended for US Army recruits that have no knowledge of Cryptography, so it is a great starting point for anyone looking to learn.

They define terms. They discuss primitive ciphers used, like substituting a number for a letter before sending a message, and build from there

*FM 34-40-2

FIELD MANUAL
NO 34-40-2 HEADQUARTERS
DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY
Washington, DC, 13 September 1990

This is all the chapters in PDF
http://www.umich.edu/~umich/fm-34-40-2/pdf.tar.gz

Oh, and it's "Cryptography" not 'cryptology'

EDIT: I put all the chapters on the FTPD in a folder
ftp://ftp.ininjas.com:9999/pub/iNinjas.com/PDF/Cryptography/US.Army.Beginning.Cryptography.Guide/

EDIT: As requested, all chapter PDFs are zipped into one file
ftp://ftp.ininjas.com:9999/pub/iNinjas.com/PDF/Cryptography/US.Army.Beginning.Cryptography.Guide/Beginning.Crypt_all.chapters.zipped.zip

Also found some other links

https://www.owasp.org/index.php/Guide_to_Cryptography
Looks like a decent guide, not as basic as the Army one

http://www.prc68.com/I/M94.shtml
Shows primitive cryptography wheels, and how the cipher gets deciphered by turning dial to letter after "A"
lol primitive. had to say that twice

The PDF is invalid for me.

It's a bunch of PDFs in a tar.gz package. you need to extract them

Im aware of how a tar.gz works. I extract the tar.gz to get a file called pdf. Is that the psf file? Or is it another archive?

Asketh and ye shall receiveth

ftp://ftp.ininjas.com:9999/pub/iNinjas.com/PDF/Cryptography/US.Army.Beginning.Cryptography.Guide/Beginning.Crypt_all.chapters.zipped.zip

The original post has link to tar.gz of all chapters as well, would require un-taring
