What can you do with an ip address?
« on: February 26, 2012, 06:02:00 am »
I know sometimes you can do a remote shutdown, and a few other things.
What other things can you do with it?
and how can you remote connect?
Thanks for the help :)

With an IP adress you can track where the IP is located, You can sniff the network, attack the users computer, and a few more things.... Google it. You can probably find more resources from there.

No no no no no.
#1 there's already a topic about this, possibly with the same name!

#2 you can find a GENERAL location if it's external. Other than that you can't really do anything.
If its internal (you're on the same network) then you can sniff the network.

Regardless of its internal or external, good luck attacking the computer from using just the ip address.

By using the IP address we can find the location of it. Then we can find  the ISP, country, latitude and longitude of the IP address. We can also find the place of the host name where it get registered and the details about the owner of the hostname. I use to find my IP address from the site Ip-Details.com .

How can you sniff the network if it's external? I tried googling it but nothing. Also you can nmap scan it for open ports, and services the victim is using. If i'm correct you can even exploit it with metasploit.

You cant sniff an external IP. You can nmap it, but that will only tell you what is running on the router. 99% of the time it will be a webserver and maybe telnet, and if you are really lucky maybe UPnP. Unless of course it was configured properly, then you are SOL. The VAST majority of the time you wont be able to do anything with metasploit.
