Well, If I recall correctly, the US gov got a warrant and made hidemyass allow them to view their logs. And I don't think any government will try to get a warrant to catch some dude just using a proxy. I mean, that's what proxies are for, right? But I try to stay away from hidemyass anyway. Good point.

Most proxies like hidemyass are just for circumvention, i.e. to bypass a web filter. They're not really for privacy, if anything they put you at more of a risk.

Tor and VPNs (the good ones at least) on the other hand are made to circumvent and encrypt.
