Best Antivirus
« on: October 17, 2012, 12:03:24 pm »
Hey Guys, I was wondering what the best antivirus scanner would be for Windows. My PC has been running really high (50% CPU idle) and I think there may be a virus on it. I have already scanned with Prevx 3.0 and Malwarebytes.
If I assist you please consider giving me a +1.

Kaspersky Internet Security
and MalwareBytes Pro

If you think the machine is already infected, it is best to burn it(secure wipe) and reload windows, THEN put these two on, before you get online again

Try and determine if you are infected. Scans were negative? What process is using CPU at idle?
If I help you or you appreciate my work, clicking that +1 button is the best thanks I could get.

Ok, I am dl'ing Kapersky but you have to pay for Malwarebytes Pro, so I passed on that. But I really don't want to have to backup everything and then reinstall all my programs. So I just don't know. Also, as I was writing the last sentence of this message, my PC blue screened while Kapersky was setting up. I got Kapersky from cnet. I use malwarebytes and avast.  (the free kinds) They both seem to work well.

I see. I used to use Avast until I got malwarebytes. No need for it anymore. And Prevx seems to work well for file scans.

download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/ download the one that says iexplorer then run it, itll delete all processes that are malware related then run malewarebytes full scan
Note: the malwarebytes full scan take a Long time it scans every single file.
after your done with that reboot your computer. if everything is ok then good. if its not then download http://majorgeeks.com/RogueKiller_d6983.html and run it and see what malware related things it comes up with and delete them. if these steps dont work then report back and we'll have to try a few other steps.

Well, I tried everything that everyone said, and now it's running at peak performance once again! Strange thing is that none of the scans came back with anything. Strange, just strange. Thanks though guys!

Have a good day!

Did you run rfkill? And if you did can you post the log file so I can see what was actually wrong? I'm kinda curious.
