I know GoDaddy is shady, but Domain.com offers all domains for $10 too. And they are very trusted. And you don't have to pay $100 a year, it's $10 every two years.

Also it's worth noting that you can make your website have a .tk or .co.cc domain name for free.

I used for free dot.tk for the domain(is a
www.whatever.tk
domain) and
http://www.000webhost.com/
for the host the free one.
And paying i'm using aruba hosting that sells a domain and a linux or windows server(whatever you prefer) for only 23 euros a year the host and a .com, .net or .whatyouwant . The service in aruba it is not very good, but it works perfectly.
