Recovery Mode boot loop
« on: January 23, 2013, 05:29:44 pm »
My iPod touch 4 is running iOS 5.0.1. Last night I downloaded Installous 5 and after install, my iPod crashed. Now it is stuck in a loop. I can't update to 6.1 because I'm on a really slow internet connection. I've tried Redsn0w recovery fix, the 'just boot' option. I have tried to restore it multiple times but to no avail. Any help, guys?

Use TinyUmbrella to restore your current version then try to update.

Lol, well first of all. We don't like to talk about piracy, or extensions of piracy on the forum, i.e. installous. And two, installous is now shut down. Three, try downloading the iOS firmware you're trying to get from a website and just use shift+select ispw so that it doesn't time out. And remember to start the TSS server before updating.

Sorry. I know yous don't like to talk about piracy. I just thought it might help if you knew what caused it. And TSS? What's that?

Kk, just don't do it again please. And it kinda does, but not a whole lot. And TSS is a function in tinyumbrella which you need to download to restore.

For a 4th gen I believe it is 6.0.1 however you will not be able to jailbreak it unless your SHSH's were stored. Generally it would be safest to upgrade to the last firmware you had, jailbreak that, then check Cydia to see what SHSHs were stored, then check for the latest jailbreakable one.

There isn't a jailbreak for iOS 6 yet. Don't try that.

Just get the latest Sn0wBreeze, it comes with iFaith already in the program. It'll have instructions on how to set your phone in the proper mode so don't worry about already being stuck in a boot-loop, Thats how I got my ahold of the SHSH Blob when my device was stuck in a boot-loop.

Cook your FW with Sn0wbreeze. Put your device into DFU mode then plug it in to your comp. Run Tiny Umbrella configure it to get your SHSH's from Cydia. Make sure you have the proper boxes ticked in the advanced settings. Start the TSS server running. Open iTunes. Hold the shift and click the restore button in iTunes. Then point iTunes to your cooked FW. This should take care of it.
