Cheap WPA cracking devices
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:08:24 pm »
I would really like to have a mobile device that can go into monitor mode. The problem is I am on a GIANT budget. If you know the cheapest device that can go into monitor mode and collect packets that would be awesome.

Well, the cheapest option I can think of is buying an Alfa and a Chromebook, flashing Ubuntu onto the Chromebook, and using it as a hacking laptop.
If I assist you please consider giving me a +1.

Well you could get an alfa and an OTG and connect it to an android phone.  From there you would use the kismet packet capture app on the device, and if you could even get some static aircrack binaries from the bcmon project.  The problem with this is it would be entirely passive so you couldn't do any wep replay attacks, or use reaver.  That being said using an alfa on android could work, but I don't believe it's been done yet....probably would be possible especially with a backtrack chroot.

Well you dont need to do any replay attacks to attack WPA. And device capable of monitor mode can do it.

And the IOS monitor mode is pretty much impossible right? I had a theory that you could spoof the kernel but....

It is pretty much impossible. You will need an android device. The Samsung Galaxy S II and the Nexus I support monitor mode quite easily

yeah, i was thinking Raspberry Pi for this? You want something that is an end-to-end solution. Probably cheapest. Very small if made headless.

The chromebook/ubuntu/alfa idea from g-man also sounds good, more power for tools, also more expensive

The ANDROiD phone, otg and Alfa using the (kismet wireless) pCap program will not give you a fully functional solution.
It is a hack to get some type of packet capture on 'droid

One of the other options will give you a start to finish solution
